Welcome back!

Raw Food for Your Holiday Season.

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

The holidays are just around the corner. You may already be preparing a menu with your family favorites. Many traditional dishes for turkey day are rich on taste, heavy on calories, and lacking in nutritional value. But making a few subtle changes can be a great improvement.

While traditional foods can bring a lot of comfort and happiness why not try to mix things up a bit this year by adding a few nutrient rich raw dishes? You can keep Thanksgiving familiar and fun while adding some healthier foods to the menu so that your whole family can reap the benefit of amazing raw foods.

Now might be a GREAT time to pick up the “Recipes for Raw Kids” book and start creating new and healthy family traditions that the whole family will love. This recipes book has many recipes that would be a tasty addition to any Holiday Feast too. Since Persimmons are in season why not make the delicious Persimmon Pudding with a scoop of Raw Ice Cream? The Mini Tomatoes with Pine Nut Cheese or the Mushroom Caps would make great appetizers. The Imitation Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Chickpea Crunchies, and Almond Milk could replace regular mashed potatoes, steamed peas, and Egg Nog. There are many ways to make this year’s celebration a whole lot healthier by adding delicious and nutritious raw food dishes! All you need to do is pick up the “Recipes for Raw Kids” un-cookbook and make a commitment to better health!

Juice Feasting – First Drink – MSM

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Today is Day 6 of my Juice Feast.  Still I’ve not managed to drink more than 2.5 quarts/liters of juice.  As well as about 2 quarts of water and 8oz of Kombucha. (I’ll explain Kombucha in another post).   I’ve not really been very active however so I may just not need as much juice right now.  I’ve been doing a lot of computer work at home and at the office.    I did go to my Belly Dance class last night which was great.  And tonight I had a few rounds of Dance Dance Revolution with Kali (my daughter). I even beat her once too. It had nothing to do with the fact I was on basic and she was on advanced, honest…  Ok.. maybe a little.

Well anyway….

The first drink of the day on a Juice Feast is recommended to be 1 quart of water with the juice of 1/2 a lemon and 1-3 tablespoons of MSM powder.   (I’ve made it with 1/2 lime as well that was good.)

Well I wondered what the heck is MSM and when I went to the health food store and asked for SMS they thought I was crazy.  Until I saw MSM on the shelf and said “oops I think I meant this.”

Well MSM is actually Methylsulfonylmethane . Say that 3 times fast…  It is a form of sulfur that is naturally found in food and in our bodies.  It is sold as a nutritional supplement for pain and inflammatory conditions.

According to “The Miracle of MSM” by Stanley W. Jacob M.D., Ronald M. Lawrence M.D., Ph.D. and Martin Zucker MSM is that natural solution for pain and relieves;

  • Back Pain
  • Headaches
  • Muscle Pain
  • Degenerative Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Tendinitis and Bursitis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • TMJ (Temporomandibular joint disorder)
  • Post-traumatic Pain and Inflammation
  • Allergies

Juice Feasting a New Journey

Juice Feasting Jars
Well I decided to kick my wellness up a notch. On November 1, 2008 I started a 92 day juice feast!  Yes this can be called a juice fast as well.  The difference is the amount of juice is unlimited it’s fresh juiced fruit and veggies and their are some supplements suggested. I’m am getting a wealth of information from Juice Feasting .com It is recommended to drink about 4 quarts of juice a day. More if you are feeling hungry or are really active.

So far my progress is this:
Every day I have started with 1 quart of water, 1 teaspoon MSM, juice of 1/2 lemon.

Day 1 drank 1.5 quarts of juice.  Felt great. No hunger (I was just super busy).
Day 2 drank 2.5 quarts of juice.  Felt great. Had a headache. Napped from 4-6pm.
Day 3 drank 2.5 quarts of juice.  Felt great. Had a headache.
Day 4 …..  That’s today.  Headache is gone. I feel great still.

Happy Feasting. I’d love to hear your comments and experiences. And if you have a raw, vegan or juice feasting blog and you like to post each other’s links please let me know.

Brightest Blessings
Rayvin
